As far as teaching 5 year olds about cultural diversity, I think that could be one of the stupidest ideas ever. With everyone pushing to be more understanding and culturally diverse then ever before, I think we should do the opposite. We still have racism today and I believe that that is somewhat a product of the way schools introduce us to cultural diversity.
When teachers try to force the idea of cultural diversity onto 5 year olds, the kids understand the concept about as much as they understand calculus. Since each ethnic group is taught to these kids at a different time, it puts all the different races onto seperate levels. Therefore, the kids begin to join their respective cliques based on their races.

I agree I believe if we dont even introduce cultural diversity into childrens lives they will learn to grow up together. If we raise children as if it was always normal for different races to be similar then that is the way they will grow up. History repeats itself and if we teach new generations about how different races were always seperate, they will always stay seperate.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Adam and Matt when they say we shouldnt teach 5 year olds about cultural diversity. It only teaches the children to find small differences between one another. I think that if schools teach children to accept eachother for any cultural diversity and not point out the differences between each childs background. We should all learn that first we are all americans and then start to dig into our cultural pasts. You shouldnt teach young children this until they are able to grasp the concept more than just the difference they see in skin or in hair color.
